Durga Puja is an annual festival which pays homage to the Hindu goddess Durga. It is also celebrated because of Durga's victory over Mahishasura. Durga Puja is mostly celebrated in the eastern Indian states of West Bengal, Bihar, Tripura, Jharkhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Odisha and also by Hindus in Bangladesh. The festival is in the Indian calendar in the month of Ashvin. Durga Puja is a 10 - day festival, and the last 5 are most important. In Durga Puja, people play the dhak. The dhak is a large drum that people hang around their necks and play with 2 thin sticks.
